Flying Ryanair? Bag Drop Will Close Earlier

If you’re taking a suitcase on your next Ryanair trip, leave a little more time at the airport. From 10 November 2026, the airline’s airport check-in and bag-drop desks will close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, rather than the current 40 minutes.

The change applies across Ryanair’s airport network, including flights from Greece and Cyprus. It mainly matters to passengers checking in luggage or using airport check-in. If you’ve checked in online and are travelling with hand luggage only, your usual routine stays the same.

What does that mean for your flight?

For a flight leaving at 3pm, you’ll need to have completed airport check-in or handed over your suitcase before 2pm. Under the current rule, the deadline is 2.20 pm.

Those 20 minutes are worth remembering, particularly if you’re used to arriving with little time to spare. The cut-off is for completing the process, so allow time for the queue as well.

Ryanair says the change will give passengers more time to get through security and passport control without missing their flight.

Online check-in stays the same

You can still check in through Ryanair’s website or app until two hours before scheduled departure.

Online check-in doesn’t remove the need to meet the bag-drop deadline if you have hold luggage. You’ll have your boarding pass, but you still need to hand over your suitcase on time.

Travelling with just hand luggage? Once you’ve checked in online, you can head through security as usual, allowing for any document checks required for your journey.

Leave time to reach the gate

The boarding deadline is unchanged: Ryanair’s gates close 30 minutes before departure.

For a flight scheduled at 3 pm, here’s how the deadlines will look from 10 November:

What you need to doDeadline
Complete online check-in1 pm
Complete airport check-in or bag drop2 pm
Reach the boarding gate before it closes2.30 pm

These are cut-off times, rather than suggested arrival times. There’s still security to get through after dropping off your bag, and sometimes a fair walk to the gate.

One to remember for autumn and Christmas trips

The rule starts on 10 November 2026, so keep it in mind when planning your airport journey for a late-autumn break or a Christmas visit home.

Arriving an hour before departure with luggage will be too late to check in. Allow enough time for queues, and check the instructions in your booking before setting off.

Information checked on 11 October 2026. Always check the latest instructions from Ryanair and your departure airport before travelling.
